La mayor\u00eda de sus composiciones fueron influenciadas por sus viajes y experiencias. Tambi\u00e9n utiliz\u00f3 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pianomundo.com.ar\/instrumentos\/\">instrumentos musicales<\/a> que en ese momento no eran utilizados, como los tambores bongo y las maracas, por ejemplo en su \u00abOvertura Cubana\u00bb. La mayor\u00eda de las letras de las canciones de Gershwin fueron escritas por su hermano Ira. Cuando Gershwin muri\u00f3, su hermano Ira luch\u00f3 emocionalmente y creativamente.
